League-wide rules for player eligibility, team play, 8-ball, handicaps, scoring, and clean dispute resolution.
The ABL rules keep weekly play consistent across rooms, teams, and locations. ABL uses a modified version of classic bar room 8-ball rules, with league-specific rules for penalties, jump cues, and handicaps.
Eligibility comes first.
Players must be at least 16 years old, active league members, legal residents of their country, and not professional players.
Payment comes before play.
Teams must be paid before they play. Unpaid teams are subject to disqualification and may lose playoff or payout eligibility.
The app is the match hub.
The ABL app manages payments, schedules, live scoring, random matchups, and handicap updates.
The honor system still matters.
Teams are expected to score together, protect questionable shots with witnesses, and resolve disputes cleanly.
At the heart of ABL is sportsmanship and fair play. Both teams should score each game and match together, and both teams are responsible for tracking handicap placements.
Any close hit or questionable circumstance should be watched by an impartial witness before the shot is taken. If the opposing team does not request a witness before the shot, the shooter gets the decision, even if the shot later appears to be an obvious foul.
Impartial witness rule
The opposing team has the right to stop play and request an impartial witness before a questionable shot. If the player shoots before the witness is available, the shooter loses the turn and the incoming player receives ball in hand.
